Hello!

I just started using My Money for mac after getting fed up with horrible quicken. I really like My Money however, I can't figure out how to make a report or chart by category? It's always by Payee. Thank you!

Best, Luke

At the moment the only reports we have that are aggregated by Category are tax related, if you open tax reports you will see them.

We are considering adding more categorized reports, most likely within couple of month

Thanks,

Thats a shame, I'm afraid that is a deal breaker for me. If you ever add that feature I would certainly be interested in purchasing a license. Good luck with your development!

Like the poster lavedon, it's a deal breaker for me too. Frankly I am amazed it isn't a standard - to say that you are considering it seems very half hearted to me too.

The Customised report option appears to let you select categories but the OK button remains greyed out. An explanation would remove one source of frustration and allow a potential user to quite right there rather than registering here only to be disappointed.

We actually had it on a schedule for release in February, we will speed up the development to include it into 2.0.40 release, approx 3 weeks from tomorrow

We will notify you when the functionality is available,

Thanks

Good stuff, sounds promising. I think I've mentioned before, really most people budget based on categories and really one doesn't care if they spent $50 on Groceries in Wholefoods or Trader Joes... it's still groceries. Also, if you spend $400 in Walmart, you'd really be interested in whether it was on frozen peas, or a TV screen.

I agree - this is crucial. If MyMoney can get reports right (and MS Money offers some good models) it looks very promising, and welcome indeed to Mac users.

Just saw that the latest release (39) incorporates reports by category, so I bought the program. That is a good step forward for sure. Next please is to have charts by category. Once that is available I shall be able to stop using Parallels and MS money on my Mac.

Quick Analytics module allows you quickly visualize data by category, sub-category, payee against selected data ranges.

Does this not work for you? Or you are asking more of traditional pie-chart report that one could print or save

If I understand Chrisjk right, he is suggesting a cashflow chart showing amounts spent against each category in each month, with data from as many months as you choose across the screen. In other words, a chart with columns representing months and rows representing categories (or, if you chose, sub-categories). This is probably the single most useful report MS Money offers - and they offer a facility to click on any month/category figure to bring up the underlying entries - and it has always puzzled me that none of the packages for Mac offer it. I like the look of MyMoney, and it is great that a new product is available; and I agree that Quick Analytics is useful. But for me the category/month chart is crucial - the deal maker, when it appears.
