Trying to use iReport on a MAC

Postby sleckey@rogers.com » Mon Jan 17, 2011 11:35 am

Hi There,

I am currently running MyMoney 2.0.59 on Mac Snow Leopard.

So far I'm fairly please with the ease of entering data, but I find the report section VERY sparse.

I tried to follow along with the wiki help for iReports, but I cannot connect to the MyMoney database for 2 reasons.
1) I cannot add the proper JDBC driver
2) I cannot find the MyMoney file - I can find the folder, but the actual file is hidden.

All I want to do is print a list of transactions, sorted by cheque number.
I'll admit that I'm a little surprised that such a basic report option isn't built into the software, and that I have to use a 3rd party software to get such a simple report.

I'm also disappointed that all the help seems to be written for PC's, what about the people who are running MACs?
How am I supposed to get help to create reports?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.
Steve

Hi There,

I have been following along with the wiki page, and have come to the part where I am setting up the Datasources.
However, when I open the drop-down for the JDBC Driver, the "org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver" is not listed.

I have downloaded and installed the newest version of iReport, as well as the mth_derby.jar file, but the only "org." options are "org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver", "org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver", and "org.postgresql.Driver".
How do I add the org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver" driver to the list?

Thanks,
Steve

OK, I have copied and pasted the driver into the list, and I have managed to link tot he database.

As per the next step, I opened the report file "Categorized_p100" which is the report for "All transactions, sorted by Category"

The report opened properly, and I was able to edit it.
Basically, all I wanted to do was swap the $F{CATNAME} and the $F{CHECKNUM} variables (I have circled these int he attached jpg.

I then saved the file and copied it back to the location where I got the original report from.

When I opened MyMoney, I was able to see and run the new report, but all that happened was the name of the categories had changed to cheque numbers, the transactions themselves were still in the same order as the original report.

Can you please post the next portion of the wiki page, about how to edit the report file?

Thanks,
Steve
