It results in...

java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)

that's the problem, you have quite old Java installation

Could you please download and install latest Java, you can get it from http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Please note that you don't need this to run MyMoney, it is just for the iReport part

Also, when installing Java please don't enable it to run in your web browser - it is a serious security risk

After installation you should get something like this, the key is version 1.7
Code: Select all
$bzsh: java -version
java version "1.7.0_15"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_15-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.7-b01, mixed mode)

Thanks so much for your patience. I am turning in for the evening, but will install the latest version tomorrow evening and let you know of my results.

Cheers,

Downloaded Java 1.7 51 and went through the installation procedure...all went well...successful install. The Oracle site you suggested above offers a installed Java version detector...all checks out fine...says I have Java 1.7 installed.

However...try the JDBC connection again...exception!

Run the java -version command in console and get the following...

macRiverdale:~ sparkie$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)

I don't get it. One detector says I have Java 1.7 installed, yet the console still says I have Java 1.6????

Click on the apple icon in the top left corner of the system menu, then System Preferences then Java. This should open Java Control Panel

There is a further tab there called Java that lists installed Java versions, there could be many. Please select 1.7 and make it default

The Update tab states: Java 7 Update 51
The Java tab has a <View> button that is disabled...I cannot view any installed versions and none are listed in the popup.

Run the java -version command in console and get the following...

macRiverdale:~ sparkie$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)

I rebooted and tried again. The <View> button was available and once clicked one version of Java is available 1.7, for both User and System.

Any other ideas?

We seem to have hit an impasse - you need to have Java 1.7 installed on your Mac to be able to run the iReport but for some reason it is not being picked up by your system

There could be many reasons for this, we will try to help you troubleshoot it.

For starters - could you please take a look at this cnet article and see if you can follow their steps - we know you already have for the most part, but just to double check - http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57 ... -for-os-x/
