OFX: <DTPOSTED> vs <DTUSER> Choose Date...

Postby smaric » Wed Oct 06, 2010 7:57 pm

Hi all,

i have the feeling its a known problem but i dont find any answers the forum because its hard to search for date.

I have the problem, that if i use ofx either as a download option or direct sync with American Express, it always uses the <DTPOSTED> date, but i would like to see the <DTUSER> datem since thats the date i actually bought something.

For Example in the ofx or in the dbug log it states:

<STMTTRN><TRNTYPE>DEBIT<DTPOSTED>20100822000000.000[-7:MST]<DTUSER>20100821000000.000[-7:MST]<TRNAMT>-63.7<FITID>320102340321631336<REFNUM>320102340321631336<NAME>KINGS SUPERMKTS #66 HOBOKEN<MEMO>000018399 2013862300</STMTTRN>

I would like to see the transaction now posted as of the 08-21-2010, but by default mymoney postes it as 08-22-2010.

Any help on that?

Thanks and greetings

This is per OFX Spec:

<DTPOSTED> - Date transaction was posted to account, datetime
<DTUSER> - Date user initiated transaction, if known, datetime

My Money always errs on side of the bank ledger when data is present, in this case it picks the posted date as reported by your institution

It is not difficult to add an option somewhere that will pick user initiated date, but wouldn't that be more confusing, since there could be large gaps between when you initiated the transactions and when it was cleared, think check paid vs check cleared

I use My Money more to track my spendings per month, and for that reason its better for me to know, when i spent the money rather then when it was cleared from my account.
But i do understand your point aswell.

Thing is, that americanexpress on its online statement shows them also with the spending date rather with the clearing date, thats why i was confused initially. Because most of the transaction appeared a day later in mm then the were in the online statement.

Thanks
