CSV File Import

Postby newuser » Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:28 am

Hi,
I am trying to import a CSV file I downloaded from my financial institution. I select "Import CSV" file and then I click on the csv file. Then the Money pops up a window saying "import complete" but nothing happens. Does the program store imported transactions somewhere that we have to go get and assign to an account or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

Hello,

My Money expects CSV in either of the 2 formats - 1) Microsoft CSV-8 for regular transactions or 2) Microsoft CSV-12 for investments

CSV-8 simply means that there are 8 fields in the file:

Code: Select all
Num,Date,Payee,C,Account,Memo,Category,Amount
,2000-11-30,The Gas Station,R,Woodgrove Bank Credit Card,,Automobile : Gasoline,-7.5400

If any of the fields are missing or misplaced My Money will skip this import

Thanks

Any chance to make this more flexible? That is pretty limiting. Additionally, your release notes mention that you can now handle checking accounts in brokerage accounts. How do we do this? Is the account assigned as an investment accoutn or a checking account? Are you still having problems connecting to Fidelity?

1) CSV-8 is a Microsoft format that we support because we convert from and to Microsoft Money. We find that beyond that every bank has their own version of CSV, there are no standards and even within a bank these can and often do change on a whim. Most banks will offer QIF and OFX downloads in addition to CSV, they are much better standards that we handle quite well.

2) If you have a Checking or Credit Card account at Fidelity you need to setup online bank connection to Fidelity Brokerage, the account should be classified as Investments/Assets. Except for you we haven't heard anybody else having issues with Fidelity, and it is difficult for us to understand what is going in your case since since we don't have access to the logs.
