Printing Charts on 8-1/2 by 11

Postby 4u2guess » Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:20 pm

When I try to print the balances over time custom chart my printer asks for A4 paper. If I print to a PDF, it come out sized 11.69" by 8.26" If I try to trick the printer by giving it 8-1/2 by 11, it reprimands me for trying to fool it and it asks for another sheet of the A4 size. The printer is on the other side of the house and It is a pain to go and manual feed the paper and reset the printer after each page. I suppose some people want to use A4 size, but we don't in USA. Is there a way to choose paper size?

Hello,

Currently there is no way of changing paper sizes through My Money user interface directly:

We can either

1) Add one or two Letter reports into next release, at your choice

or

2) Explain how to change the paper sizes inside of Report templates, this will involve editing 2 lines of text inside of .jrxml templates in system/reports folder

Thanks,

I think that adding new reports to accommodate paper size for the minor A4 vs 8-1/2 x 11 difference effectively doubles the number of reports. Unless they are sorted by size, either Europeans or Americans will be wading through clutter to find the report that they want. It happens that if I save the report to PDF format ant try to print the PDF file, the dialog that opens will allow me to print on a different paper size (shrink to fit) without changing the printer defaults. The dialog that My Money uses requires me to go into the printer properties to change the image size to match available paper.

Could that be made a setup option under the gear icon? If not, I want your option 2.

We will look into changing print sizes through program, this will be added to the list of requested features. We can't comment on ETA at this point.

Meanwhile we published a short article on wiki on how to change report sizes manually

I tried changing the page size according to your suggestion and then received an error because the column width plus margins did not fit the page. When I reduced the column width, Pandora's box opened up and things started falling off the right side of the page. I added a warning to the Wiki to make a backup before editing. Luckily, I had done that. For now, I am going to manually change printer properties when printing these charts.
