Quicken Essentials, Importing Categories

My Quicken Essentials displays and uses "Nested Categories" which I prefer anyway.

When Quicken Essentials Categories are imported into MyMoney they become "un-nested".

This is not a problem so long as I am able to create a Parent and Child category structure within MyMoney, however, I have failed and am unable to create Parent and Child structure once QE is imported into MyMoney.

Is there a work-around for this situation ?

Otherwise I just have a list of "Child" Categories which doesn't work so easily, especially in Reports.

Quicken Essentials v1.7.4 (Build 4.7362.400) and MyMoney v2.0.85

Hello,

QEM and MyMoney categorization system is quite different; QEM is tag based and MyMoney is Parent-Child system - we tried to design the converter in such a way that it would bridge the systems but may be we missed something

If you could please post here or email us a small screenshot of nested categories in QEM and how MyMoney mapped them out, this would help us to understand a bit better what do you think the problem is ,

Thanks

MTH MyMoney.

As a matter of interest and as a test I have also imported the same QIF File generated by MoneyDance 2012.
MyMoney imports that File with the Categories "Nested" as originally created in QEM and MoneyDance, however, the QIF file imported from MoneyDance does not import into MyMoney accurately, the "Split Categories" Payee's are creating problems which would take a lot of manual corrections to eliminate.

That's why I reverted to the QEM import, the "Splits" are imported absolutely accurately, but, the QEM import creates the problem with "nesting"...........(as you can see, it looks more like a double entry accounting system)

If the Category nesting problem were eliminated from the QEM import it would become, as far as I'm concerned, a 100% accurate import.
If I could manually create Parent categories in the MyMoney imported file as I can in QEM or MoneyDance, that would also eliminate my problem.

Thanks for your help.

It would help us if we had a use case - if you don't mind could you please create a QEM file with few transactions that are categorized to your liking. If we understood you correctly you would have splits and regular transactions assigned to pairs such as Personal-Baby, Personal-Clothes, etc and MyMoney would not recreate these pairs but instead would put everything under the Expenses category

Could you please email this file to us at info@mthbuilt.com

We can re-create it ourselves too but we would prefer to have an exact customer submitted use case so we can accurately fix it

Thank you

Hello,

We have made adjustments and categories are now importing just as they were in the original QEM file

We will run few more tests and then will give you a private build so you can double check it before general availability,

Thanks
