Importing using the trial

Hi,

I'm one of those lost financial souls abandoned by MS Money, further complicated by switching to a Mac. I downloaded the trial of MyMoney, which looks like the most promising in a weak field of competitors. One thing that was REALLY promising is instructions for importing MS Money transactions!

I followed the instructions. It says Import Completed, but I don't see any transactions. Do I perhaps need to add all the accounts and categories first? I haven't added any accounts, and I have the default set of categories. (I'd prefer to have my MS Money categories, though.)

All Accounts, Categories, Payees etc are resolved and created automatically based on the data in your import file.

Please double check the Accounts Manager tab to see whether any of the accounts have been created or not.

If there is no data please double check the import file, it is format sensitive and wiki has a sample of a proper import data.

We had a case recently when the customer was trying to import running balances from Microsoft Money which we don't support.

Thanks

It was my mistake creating the csv file, as you supposed.

When I finally got the csv correctly saved (20,000 transactions), MyMoney started to import it. It looked good--the last I saw was 8000 imported. The next time I looked, though, MyMoney had unexpectedly quit. Do I need to do fewer transactions at one time?

20k transactions is well within the range.

Did any of the accounts get created or none at all?

Also, please double check the import locale, it is set through Preferences/Import options and it helps to decipher the amounts and dates properly

If it is a still no-go, you could zip the file and send it to us, we promise to "unsee" it and delete it the moment we understand what the issue is

Thanks,

All the accounts seem to be there. (I didn't check every one.) Many transactions are missing, of course. I think I'm okay on the locale--I'm US(English)/dollar which is what it says in the prefs. I'll send you the file.

The problem is that you have investments accounts and investment transactions that we don't support.

You can either wait for our investment module which is going to go into public beta in 2 release cycles, or transfer just your operational accounts from Microsoft Money.

We are going to be supporting investments transfers also, so you can do that part later.

2 release cycles....As I am using a 60 day trial....how long might that be. I also tried to export cvs and import and with no luck. I have been using Money for about 12 years and there could be some items such a investments that could be clogging the import transaction. The CVS export looks just fine. It just will not go into My Money.

If you are using the software and are waiting for a particular functionality we normally extend the trial until we release it, so it is not an issue.

Please try to limit your Microsoft Money export accounts into non-investment accounts only, you should have about 14 to 16k transactions and it should go through. If it is stuck again please send us export file, we will troubleshoot it

Thanks,
