Adding Payees "on-the-fly" in Mac

Postby matt_tait » Sat May 30, 2009 2:33 pm

Hi,

I'm using MyMoney 2.0.43 (Trial) on Mac OS 10.5. I like it, and am willing to purchase it -- except I can't figure out how to do one crucial thing.

I would like to associate a Category with a Payee, so that My Money knows to categorize a (for example) Stop & Shop transaction as "Food" whenever it encounters one. I've read the "Payees and Categories" wiki, but can't find specific instructions for accomplishing this.

Can you please advise?

Thanks,

Matt

Hello,

My Money will always look for the most recent category for a given payee. For example, suppose you had 2 Stop and Shop transactions, the first one you categorized as 'Weekly Groceries' and the 2nd one as 'Misc'.

When entering a new transaction and choosing Stop and Shop as a payee you will get 'Misc' prefilled automatically. Starting from build 42 My Money will also prefill your last amount for your convenience.

There are no special steps needed for such associations, these are resolved at all times automatically.

Does that not happen in your case?

Thanks

Hi,

In my case, I imported a transaction history in QIF format. Then, I marked a transaction where "Stop and Shop" was payee as "Groceries". I then expected MyMoney to go forward and mark every Stop and Shop transaction which I had just imported with the "Groceries" category, but it did not.

Please use Quick Edit: Refactor Categories

This will do exactly what you want.

Sometimes the "Prefill" of the category and amount is undesired. It would be nice to be able to turn that off, particularly in an edit situation when there is already another value in those fields, as opposed to a new transaction with empty fields.
