questions about downloaded transactions

Postby JacksonLaw » Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:58 pm

First, a little pat on the back to MTH: your software looks really good. The Mac market is wide open for a good personal finance application, because there aren't any good ones. (I won't name names, but each of the major contenders has some serious issues.) I've been wondering for the longest time why no one was stepping up to fill this gaping hole. I sure hope this software does well.

Anyway, on to my questions: I just set up my credit card account, and downloaded all the available transactions from the bank. I accepted all the transactions.

(1) Is there any way to manually accept or reject individual transactions, or manually match transactions, or is the entire process automated? There are a lot of times when I don't want a transaction to go into the register. For example, when you buy an airline ticket, the airline will usually put a couple of zero-dollar transactions on your bill for trip insurance etc. I'd like to delete stuff like that before it gets into the register.

(2) Does MyMoney ever remember which transactions you downloaded from the bank, and only download the new ones? So far, every time I do a download, all the transactions all the way back to July 2008 appear in the "Downloaded Transactions" window, even though I get the message "There are no new transactions posted to <<account name>>." I was hoping that only the new transactions would appear.

Thanks, and best of luck to MTH on your quest to finally give us Mac users a great personal finance app!

1) My Money views downloaded transactions as a statement of record from the bank and as such it does not allow to individually approve-reject downloaded data, you will get the whole batch. You always can individually delete/refactor transactions after they were downloaded.

2) Normally banks mark their transactions with unique id's, so once the transaction is downloaded and entered into My Money it will not be entered again as the program recognizes unique transactions ids and prevents them from being posted again.

In your case there must be a discrepancy, you may have deleted the transactions in the register and that's why they appear again.

If you press accept button do you get duplicate transaction entries? If you do we would like to take a look at a bank communications log, it may be something that bank does not set right

Thanks

Yes, I pressed the "Accept" button and still got the re-downloaded transactions. The first time, I did delete all downloaded transactions prior to January 1, 2009, because I was trying to start a new file for the calendar year. Then, when they reappeared the second time, I just accepted them again and left them there, but they still kept coming back in subsequent downloads.

We would appreciate if you could send it to us, either PM it here or send into info at mthbuilt.com

Before sending please open it up in a text editor and sanitize it, remove user names/passwords/account#s,

Thanks
