Permanently deleting an account...

Postby Nightowl » Thu Jul 21, 2011 6:18 pm

...seems to be impossible because '...there are x ledger entrie(s) that are using it'

What's that all about, please?

Thank you.

Hello,

You need to delete all transactions on this account first, including reconciled transactions, memorized entries, investment transactions etc

Once transactions are cleaned you should be able to delete this account

Thanks

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Would doing this have any effect on accounts where links exist, e.g. transfers between accounts?

Thank you.

yes, transfers between accounts are posted on both (as a debit on one and a credit on another)

Ah. Will this affect the balance of the linked account? I.e. if I transferred £x from my current account to a credit card account, then closed the credit card, would deleting the cc details (including the transactions) affect the balance on my current account?

Also, I've got a lot of payees I've only used the once (and will never use them again because they were whilst I was holiday abroad!) Is there a way I can delete these?

Thank you,

1) Deleting the transactions will update the balances, thats why we recommend simply closing the account, without deleting it. You can configure Accounts manager so closed accounts are not shown up but you will still have a reference to historical transactions should you ever need it

2) Payees are similar, once referenced you can't just delete it, this will leave your transaciton in an orphaned state. You can merge the payees to consolidate them, this will reduce the number of payees safely
