Can't import split info from old MS Money

Hi there,

I'm new to MyMoney and am trying to import my old MS Money info. I've followed the instructions in the manual but here's the problem. If I select "Show Splits" in the MS Money report, then no information at all gets exported to the desktop. If I deselect "Show Splits" then everything gets exported correctly, except my split transactions which get listed as both the top level transaction and all the subtransactions (effectively doubling all the information). This is obviously an MS Money problem, but of course, Microsoft doesn't support it anymore. I was hoping that somebody has come up with a workaround for this problem. If not, then I will add the split transaction information manually to the CSV file that I can generate, however I need to know how the split information is supposed to appear in the CSV file. So if anyone knows a) how to fix my MS Money export issue, or b) can tell me what splits are SUPPOSED to look like in the CSV file that is imported by MyMoney, then I can make this all work, one way or another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

Splits should be imported with no problems, please double check that they are being generated properly

This is how Microsoft Money usually generates their split information:

Code: Select all

,7/11/2007,Kim Abercrombie,,Woodgrove Bank Checking,,Split/Multiple Categories,-220
,,,,,,Transfer To : Business Checking,-120
,,,,,,Transfer To : Business Checking,-100

Thanks for this info. My version of Money just won't generate an output file when the "Show Splits" field is checked. I don't know why, but as I'm using the 2002 version, not only is the product not supported by MS, but I'm sure that version is so out of date that there is no workaround either. But you've now shown me how the CSV is supposed to look, so I can go in and edit every one of my split transactions manually and with a little bit of effort, it should work out okay. Thanks again.

Wouldn't be easier to export and import data as a QIF file? It seems like a lot of manual work to backfill missing splits into csv ..
